Dr. Scott completed medical school at Midwestern University in Chicago, and completed her family practice residency in Denver, CO. She then joined APEX Family Medicine in 1998 and assumed ownership in 2002. Her humanitarian approach towards patient care allows her to establish healthcare partnerships with her patients that continue through the years and within families. Dr. Scott is committed to embracing diversity and provides comprehensive healthcare to the whole community. Her dedication to her patients includes attention to detail, staying informed on the latest technology in family medicine and HIV/AIDS care. She is thorough , compassionate and caring towards her patients, encouraging them to make educated decisions in their care.
Dr. Ben Young, MD, Ph.D.
Dr. Benjamin Young has been caring for people living with HIV at APEX Family Medicine since 2012 where he specializes in antiretroviral therapy and healthy aging with HIV. Dr. Young is also the Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care, where among his responsibilities, he coordinates evidence-based medical and human rights policies with the United Nations and the World Health Organization.
Dr. Young received his PhD in biochemistry working in the laboratory of Nobel laureate Thomas Cech at the University of Colorado in Boulder and did his medical training in internal medicine and infectious diseases and the CU Health Sciences Center in Denver.
Dr. Young is the author of more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters relating to HIV and its treatment. He has educated health care professionals and community groups in over 50 countries and devoted previous years to training physicians in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, where he witnessed a coup d'etat and a polio epidemic. Dr. Young lives with his wife and five border collies in the Roaring Fork Valley and enjoys skiing, cycling, photography and hunting for unusual street food in back alleys around the world.
Derek Miller, PA-C MMS
Derek is a graduate of the Red Rocks PA program in Lakewood, Colorado and is a certified Physician Assistant. He grew up in Maryland and completed his undergraduate education at the University of Maryland in College Park, studying Biology and Psychology. His previous medical experience includes working as a Mental Health Specialist, treating all age groups in a large psychiatric hospital in South Carolina. Derek loves the field of family medicine because it allows him to care for all patients across the lifespan, providing detailed and comprehensive care, in addition to getting to help those in need. He believes in treating all patients as if they were family, active listening, patient education, the mind-body connection, innovative treatments, and unconditional, nonjudgmental acceptance of others. In his spare time Derek enjoys lifting weights, hiking, running, and going to concerts around Denver. Derek is excited to join the APEX Family Medicine team and contribute his knowledge and passion for helping others to their practice.
Loraine Van Slyke
Family Nurse Practitioner
Loraine Van Slyke is a family nurse practitioner, and she is honored to be a member of the health team at Apex Family Medicine. Her path to the field of health has been somewhat unique in that she began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Lawrence University in New York and continued on to receive a second Bachelor's degree as well as a Master of Science in Nursing at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Her studies have taken her from biomedical research in Boston to Children's Hospital Los Angeles, to remote village clinics in Northern India and rural family practices in West Virginia.
From these experiences, she began her career in an urgent care setting becoming skilled in evaluating and managing acute medical conditions in Denver's more underserved populations. She then transitioned into family medicine where delivering comprehensive patient-centered health care and promoting wellness through education have become the cornerstones to her practice philosophy as a FNP. She feels very fortunate to be given the opportunity to work with Apex as they serve and act as health advocates for the community. She is also excited about exploring life as a Colorado resident. She grew up in Portland, Maine where her love of the outdoors began. In turn, she spends much of her free time hiking, skiing, running, and enjoying all that this beautiful city and state have to offer.
Randall McDavid, MS, NP-C, FNP-BC, CDE, AAHIVS
Family Nurse Practitioner
Randall was born and raised in Southwest Virginia/East Tennessee. He graduated from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2005 and earned his Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Indianapolis. He has been a nurse practitioner since 2010.
As a double board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and American Nurses Credentialing Center), Randall looks forward to creating long lasting patient-provider relationships. He is an HIV specialist through the AAHIVM (American Academy of HIV Medicine). Randall, his husband, and Rocco (their dog) recently relocated to Denver. Randall is pleased to be a part of the APEX Family Medicine team.
Kendra Brandt was born and raised here in Denver, Colorado. She received her Bachelor of Science degree at UNC in Greeley, CO. She worked at Children's Hospital in Denver and was a phlebotomist before going to Savannah, Georgia for PA school at South University. Kendra is a certified physician assistant.
She is looking forward to building genuine connections and trusting relationships with her patients. Kendra believes in a comprehensive approach to medicine which includes new and integrative medicine as well as alternative approaches to treatment. She believes that a healthy lifestyle combines not only physical health, but mental and emotional as well. She believes in and is dedicated to the Apex Family Medicine vision. Kendra is very passionate about helping others in any way she can. In her free time she likes to hike, play volleyball, workout, spend time with her dogs, friends and family.
Wendy Wolf graduated from the University of Colorado Denver in May 2017 and has been working at Apex Family Medicine ever since. In addition to being a certified Physician Assistant she is also a Registered Dietitian. Her studies have taken her from her hometown of Grand Junction, Colorado to the University of Northern Colorado, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics, and then to West Virginia University for her Masters in Human Nutrition. Wendy has a special passion for disease prevention and management though combining diet/lifestyle with medical treatments.
Wendy's proactive philosophy is to provide outstanding care to all individuals from various walks of life through a collaborative partnership between the patient and the provider. No two patients are exactly alike and deserve to have personalized care depending on their unique circumstances.
Wendy has always loved the outdoors so when she is out of the office she enjoys spending time hiking, snowboarding, or golfing. She can also be found around town trying new restaurants and coffee shops.
